- Ally: what's in Nashville? Not that I'm knocking it but of all the places in the country to visit for a weekend, I'm thinking 'why Nashville?'
- J: a few friends live in the area. they've visited our cities numerous times. returning the favor.
- Ally: ah ha! I was hoping you hadn't suddenly found a deep seated love for country music.
- J: yes you found out my dirty secret. i am a honky tonk ho down lovin country music fan LMAO
- Ally: It wouldn't surprise me. You're weird.
- J: Hi pot. : )
- Ally: Hey Kettle. ;D
I found it today while looking for something else. Thought I’d share…
We started as friends
No thoughts of romance
You were my source of security
The only one I could depend on
Deeper feelings arose
But I kept them all inside
Never sharing how I felt
Until that one night
What a mistake it was
Giving you the upper hand
Deluded myself into thinking that
You really were my man
Moved beyond the limits of friends
Into unchartered territory better left alone
I built you up
Fed your ego
Helped you along
Set aside my pride and sacrificed
Time after time
I should have known better
But I lost myself in you
Now who’s the fool? (me)
Friends said I was too easy
Let you get away with murder
Like a puppet on a string
Where you’d go, I’d follow
Got caught up in the idea of love
Finding my soul mate
That special perfect one for me
So caught up that I lost focus
Of what was really important
Left myself by the wayside
Centered my world around you
It was all you all the time
No time for family or friends
Because I was too busy tryna please you
But now I realize that
I’ve fucked up my life
I need to move on from you
Get my act together
‘Cause there’s no one to blame for this mess
*should be noted that I don’t currently have a crush
Mmmm, Gerry Butler! : )
Do any of you know who is responsible for all of these ICON cds I see being released lately? I ask because I’m listening to the E.Badu installment of the series know and started screaming because they have The Roots’ “You Got Me” on here, but it’s the Jill Scott version. Granted the versions are hella similar, but there’s a clear difference.

Hey Mama! How are things? Blahblahblah insert small talk here. YaddaYaddaYadda obligatory gushing about my adorable, precious nieces goes here. Now that we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, can we get real for a second? Though the gigantic chasm of religious differences has strained our friendship, I will forever refer to you as my best friend.
A lot people hold stock in frequency of interaction with a friend to qualify the level of friendship they have. Not me. I haven’t seen you in person in Lord knows how long. We have a text message exchange catching up every couple months. Phone calls are even more infrequent than those text exchanges. That means nothing to me. I know that if I needed you at three am on a Wednesday morning, you’d drop everything to be there. And you know I’d do just the same.
We’ve been through a lot with friends, family, boys, men, school, work, BABIES!!! & life in general. Each time we’ve been there for each other, no questions asked. There are not many people who can call me on my bullshit as frankly as you do. There is hardly anyone who can tell from one word spoken aloud the depth or shallowness of the feeling behind it. No one in my life has come close to the unwavering show of loyalty, courage, tenacity, & silliness that it takes to be my friend.
You’re the Beyonce to my Kelly and the Gayle to my Oprah. You da bessssssssssssssss.
I love you, girl!
-Nettie (& you know I love you since you’re the only person living besides my daddy that I let get away w/ calling me this!)
you’re most welcome! : )
